The towering rock formations in the Colorado Springs area have been a climbing mecca for decades. each year, over 2,500 technical climbers receive a free annual permit to ascend sandstone and conglomerate rocks that were formed 240 and 300 million years ago.Technical climbing on these ancient rock formations is managed to help protect the resource while providing for the enjoyment and challenge of the sport. Technical climbing is permitted in the Garden of the Gods.
